Wednesday, August 30, 2017

Students received their first homework assignment today. They are decorating the cover of the notebook they were given. This notebook will be your child’s in-class writing notebook this year.

Your child’s name needs to be on it, and easy to read.

The cover gives the student ideas to write about when they are stuck. Images of family members, close friends, pets, vacations, summer activities, sports they play, or any other special memory are best. These images can be photographs, magazine cutouts, drawings done by hand, or almost any other flat item.

It is due next Wednesday, September 6.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the assignment.

  • Get a good night sleep.
  • Eat a good breakfast tomorrow morning.
  • Come to school on time.
  • You may want to bring a second snack for tomorrow.
  • Invention Homework: Talk to your family and friends to brainstorm ideas for new inventions. You could ask them the following questions: 1. What problems need to be solved with new technology? 2. What would make life easier or more fun? Dream up as many solutions as you can and list them. After each idea, write a sentence about how the invention would make life easier or more fun. We will share ideas later this week.

Friday is a read-a-thon day!

The school will once again be celebrating Read Across America, and Dr. Seuss’ birthday, with an all school read-a-thon! The entire day will be filled with reading, and reading related activities, to celebrate literacy and the joy of reading.

Just like in the fall, children should wear comfy clothes, bring sleeping bags, books or maga zines, a favorite stuffed animal, and prepare to enjoy a day of reading. Dr. Seuss books are most welcome!

Children do have recess on that day, and should also come prepared with appropriate outside clothing.

The read-a-thon is an all school event, and will be packed with fun and memorable activities for children of all ages. It is a day we look forward to all year long!

Your student will still have a spelling test on Friday.
